National Pingtung University Delegation Visits Universiti Malaya to Renew MOU, Ushering in the Next Decade of Collaboration

From June 24 to 26, 2026, a delegation from National Pingtung University (NPTU), led by President Robert Chen, Dean of the international affairs Kelvin Chen, and Director Liu Huai-Wei, visited Malaysia for a three-day program of academic exchange and partnership building. The highlight of the visit was the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Universiti Malaya (UM), alongside the signing of strategic alliance agreements with two independent secondary schools in Klang, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation in education, research, and talent development.

Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur on June 24, the delegation engaged with Persatuan Alumni Taiwan Selangor dan Wilayah Persekutuan, reflecting the strong cultural and educational ties between Taiwan and Malaysia. On June 25, the NPTU team visited Hin Hua High School and Kwang Hua Private High School in Klang, where both institutions signed strategic alliance agreements with NPTU. These partnerships aim to attract and nurture young talent, while promoting cross-border educational exchange and diversified development.

On June 26, the delegation proceeded to Universiti Malaya for the formal MOU signing ceremony. UM Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Noor Azuan Abu Osman emphasized that the renewed agreement not only strengthens the partnership between the two universities but also focuses on impactful areas of collaboration, including joint research grants, collaborative projects, academic and student mobility, talent cultivation, and knowledge sharing. He underscored that the true value of international partnerships lies in mobilizing talent, combining expertise, and transforming cooperation into outcomes that benefit institutions and society.

Collaboration between NPTU and UM began in 2016, with the past decade marked by close interaction through academic forums, research initiatives, and student exchanges. The renewal of the MOU symbolizes the transition into the next decade of cooperation, with deeper and broader engagement ahead. NPTU envisions this partnership as a means to expand international opportunities for faculty and students, while strengthening cross-cultural exchange and academic synergy.

President Robert Chen remarked that NPTU is committed to advancing internationalization, and that partnering with UM, Malaysia’s premier university, will enhance both institutions’ capacities in education and research, while contributing to regional development. He expressed confidence that future initiatives will be concrete, meaningful, and mutually beneficial, setting a benchmark for Taiwan and Malaysia educational collaboration.

This visit not only reinforced the bond between NPTU and UM but also demonstrated NPTU’s determination to expand its global presence.
